Week 235 - Donut

  • I woke up on Monday morning in a Premier Inn family room in Portsmouth. We had stayed overnight (see last week) and it was L’s birthday, meaning she had presents in bed (at least the ones I didn’t mind lugging up to the room). After a big breakfast, we went up the Spinnaker Tower, piloted little boats around a dock, went shopping in Gunwharf Quays, and then I drove us home for cake and Deliveroo’d burgers.
  • The boys (and their mother) were off for the rest of half term. Each morning I left them behind in their pyjamas for my commute to my office at the end of the garden.
  • I saw a cracking gig from The Dears in rainy Hackney with Andy on Wednesday. Their No Cities Left album from 2003 is a favourite but I’d never seen them live. Big mistake. Murray is a phenomenal frontman and their songs are loud and catchy. We kept asking each other, how were they not much bigger?
  • I took C for cake and juice at John Lewis before Lego club at the library. We talked about PokĂ©mon: he wanted to make an “Omega Old-Fashioned Donut” in his game on the Switch. I explained that omega (Ω) is the last letter of the Greek alphabet which is why they use the symbol in the game 🤯
  • I’m not a fan of DIY, but I successfully resealed our shower’s water barrier which was leaking. I had a mild panic over the blocked mastic tube, but I got the job done. When AI inevitably takes my job I will need to improve these skills…
  • L and I booked a babysitter on Saturday so we could have a night out. After a few nice drinks in the pub we moved to the Indian next door for a curry, but we’d forgotten it was Ramadan. The apologetic staff said we couldn’t eat in but they were doing takeaways. We took our food home and sent the babysitter away with extra money to compensate.
  • Arsenal are back on track after a wobble at Wolves. A thumping 4-1 win in the North London Derby was very much needed, and may even contribute to relegating them lot.
