First proper night out after the second baby for the last night of Stewart Lee’s Content Provider tour at the Royal Festival Hall. As always, brilliant, even sitting at the back among the “Friends of the South Bank”.
Arsène Wenger became Arsenal’s manager when I was 17. Throughout my adult life - university, jobs, relationships, marriage and two kids - he’s been a constant. It’s a strange, sad feeling that he’s going. #MerciArsène for the beautiful football, the trophies and so many highs.
I finally got round to trying some AWS basics:
Route 53 for DNS of barryf.co.uk
S3 for static web hosting
CloudFront in front of S3 for HTTP/2 and CDN
SSL certificate via ACM
Hate the UI but it was reassuringly easy. Next to try: Lambda and API Gateway.
Watching those side boosters land from @spacex Falcon Heavy was a genuine open-mouth woah moment! Just amazing. Nice touches with Bowie and Don’t Panic on the Tesla screen.
🎉 Jekyll’s default Minima theme now has #microformats baked in to its templates. Really pleased to see my pull request merged in the latest gem release. #indieweb twitter.com…
Way back in 2006, long before Slack, a few colleagues and I ran a little tumblelog/microblog at the very cool URL vom.it (sadly no longer live) to share the interesting stuff we’d found. I especially liked the way posts and comments were presented inline.
I hadn’t read @brad_frost’s (cool name) article about thoughtless use of the word “just” before seeing @adactio’s tweet.
I’m sure I’ve used “just” in copy in that context before and I’ll strive to avoid doing so in future.
As seems obligatory today, this note tests whether I can post tweets with over 140 characters, now that Twitter supports up to 280. I’m posting this to my site first (naturally) and hopefully the Ruby @gem and Twitter’s API won’t bork when it’s syndicated 🤞
While posting an article here earlier I reminded myself how clunky I’ve made things unless I’m writing plain-text notes. Manually hacking the content in a JSON document is unnecessarily cumbersome. And syntax-highlighted code blocks would be nice. Some itches to scratch!
