Week 42: Medal

  • I love Apple’s annual WWDC keynote. While shiny new hardware is interesting, seeing previews of the software that I’ll be using on all my devices later this year in a relentless, two-hour, feature-packed presentation is another level up. Unlike a few years ago, I’m no longer brave/foolish enough to install the betas on my main devices, but there’s not long to wait.
  • After work on Wednesday I took a short tube down to join Andy at the Oval for the Surrey v Sussex T20. Having lived in Surrey and South-West London for several years I still follow Surrey; Brighton-based Andy supports Sussex. Surrey won, but we were the real winners, enjoying early evening sunshine, beers and the it’s-not-really-cricket-but-it’s-still-fun sport.
  • I was back in town on Friday evening for a gig: Helen Love at The Lexington. I wasn’t too familiar with Helen’s Bubblegum Punk Pop, but enjoyed her/their catchy songs like Debbie Loves Joey. The Ramones feature prominently.
  • The morning after the gig I had the rare lie-in because L had taken the boys to her parents’ for the weekend. I love them all dearly, but the peace and quiet was blissful!
  • They all returned in time for H’s football awards on Sunday. Codicote Youth FC is a wonderful local club, run by volunteers for about 10 teams of boys and girls. H was given his first football medal for his under-6s team, of which he was very proud. And of course his little brother was immediately jealous.
