Week 154 - Ten

  • We celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary this week, spending three lovely nights in Nice. The boys stayed with L’s parents leaving us to enjoy our longest holiday as a couple since pre-children days.
  • It was wonderful. We stayed in a fun but basic hotel to the north of the city, meaning plenty of walking: down to the sea, around the markets in the old town, down to the port and up Castle Hill to reach the Cascade waterfall. And this was all in humid 30C heat, so we very much earned our calories.
  • My food highlight was dinner at La Langouste but at the other end of the spectrum, the gnocchi at local restaurant Le Tchitchou was very good. We also enjoyed some local rosé and beers overlooking Place Masséna and the port.
  • For my anniversary present I gave L a big album of our wedding photos that I spent several June evenings compiling, printed beautifully by MILK Books - pricey but recommended. Their Mac Photos plugin made it very easy. We haven’t changed much in the intervening 10 years in my opinion, apart from my greying beard.
  • On Tuesday before our Nice trip, I spent a day in Bristol with a couple of my team who are based nearby. I hired a meeting room from DeskLodge to work from and we ate burgers from Squeezed down by the harbourside. Bristol in the sunshine is a lovely place to be.
